Large Party Gratuity
Because there is no gratuity added to large parties, they are capable of taking up a server's whole shift or large part of it, and not leaving any tip at all or a very measley amount. This has happened countless times at our restaurant. We are not able to turn large parties as quickly as a small party. Gratuity added helps hold guests accountable to pay for their service, and it assures the server that they will be getting a guaranteed pay for their hard work and isn't missing out.
Why is this important?
This effects everyone in the restaurant. We have all had large parties that did not tip what they were supposed to, resulting in wasted time and a wasted shift. This ensures that it will not happen anymore and servers will be properly compensated.
